Connect ChatGPT

ChatGPT connects to custom MCP servers through developer mode, on ChatGPT for the web.

Before you start​

  • A ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Education account. In Business, Enterprise and Education workspaces, an admin may have to allow developer mode first.
  • A NameBeta account, or create one on the sign-in page during setup.

Turn on developer mode​

Open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.

Create the app​

  1. Open Plugins in ChatGPT and click the + button. It creates developer-mode apps only once developer mode is on.
  2. Fill in the form:
    • Name: NameBeta
    • Description: for example, Domain availability, registrar prices, WHOIS and DNS lookups
    • MCP server URL: https://namebeta.com/api/mcp
    • Authentication: OAuth. Leave the client ID and secret empty; ChatGPT identifies itself with a Client ID Metadata Document.
  3. Create the app. When ChatGPT sends you to the NameBeta sign-in page, sign in and approve access.

The app now appears under Drafts in your app settings, where you can switch individual tools off or refresh the tool list.

Use it in a chat​

  1. In the message box, open the + menu and select Developer mode.
  2. Choose the NameBeta app for this conversation.
  3. Ask for what you need. Naming the tool makes ChatGPT pick it reliably:
Use NameBeta's compare_prices to compare prices for kettlory.com in EUR.
