Connect Windsurf

Windsurf is now called Devin Desktop, and its documentation has moved from docs.windsurf.com to docs.devin.ai. It has two agents that keep separate MCP configurations: Devin Local, the default for new tabs, and the older Cascade.

Checked against vendor docs 2026-09-29, not tested end-to-end

The steps below follow Devin's documentation for MCP in Devin CLI, which the Devin Local agent uses, and for MCP in Cascade. We have not yet signed in to NameBeta from Devin Desktop ourselves.

That documentation describes sign-in through Dynamic Client Registration, which NameBeta does not offer, or with a pre-registered client ID. It does not mention Client ID Metadata Documents, so expect to need a client ID: see Sign in.

Before you start​

  • Devin Desktop (formerly Windsurf). In Enterprise plans, an admin may have to turn MCP on first.
  • A NameBeta account, or create one on the sign-in page during setup.

Add the server​

Devin Local agent​

Run in a terminal:

devin mcp add -s user namebeta https://namebeta.com/api/mcp

-s user adds NameBeta for all your projects, in ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json. Without it, the server is added to .devin/mcp_config.local.json in the current project only.

Cascade​

  1. In the Cascade panel, open the ... (Actions) menu in the top right.
  2. In the MCPs section, click Open MCP config file. The file is ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json on macOS and Linux, and %APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json on Windows.
  3. Add a namebeta entry under mcpServers and save the file:

Sign in​

For the Devin Local agent, run:

devin mcp login namebeta

Your browser opens the NameBeta sign-in page; sign in and approve access. If sign-in instead fails with an error about dynamic client registration, ask for a client ID as described under Pre-registered client IDs, naming Devin as the client. Then sign in with it:

devin mcp login namebeta --oauth-client-id <client ID>

Cascade's documentation says only that it supports OAuth, not how sign-in starts or whether it takes a client ID.

devin mcp list shows the servers of the Devin Local agent. For Cascade, the MCPs section of the ... menu lists each server and how many tools it has enabled.

Try it​

Which TLDs are still free for brewlab? Of the taken ones, which are for sale?

The agent runs check_availability. The answer should mix taken, for-sale and available domains; the tool's example shows the result of 2026-09-29.

Disconnect or switch account​

  • Devin Local agent: devin mcp logout namebeta signs out and keeps the server; devin mcp remove namebeta removes it.
  • Cascade: turn the server off with its toggle in the MCPs section, or remove the entry from mcp_config.json.
